  1. What you posted, Averil, does much and does it brilliantly. I first saw it a few years ago and found it quite moving. My wife’s parents were from Ukraine and were driven out by war. Her oldest sister was born in a DP camp in Austria.

  2. Drew’s mother adopted two boys from Ukraine, brothers whose grandmother was no longer able to care for them. The younger has cerebral palsy due to the difficult birth that took his mother’s life.

    The sand paintings are mesmerizing, as is the piece you posted. And this one, which you may have seen as well, but is so lovely I have to make sure you don’t miss it.

  3. The Ukraine is so up-popping today, for coincidentally, I am reading these days Jonathan Safran Foer’s “Everything Is Illuminated.”

    I watched the second video you posted. I hadn’t seen it before. I might say that I have never been anything other than alone. Or I might say that it is because we humans are so self-consciously alone that we created gods.
