  2. A person cannot reach middle age without having found some true sources of peace and joy. Somehow I was able to help raise me up a fine young man of a son. The woman I am married to is a marvel. When the writing goes well, it goes very well. The great number of my demons have been laid to rest. My wife and I live with several cats and they are extraordinary critters. Our neighborhood, in the middle of the city, has woodpeckers and roadrunners and quiet, retiring folk. I have a job, I do it reasonably well, it’s reasonably decent work, and I have a roof over my head and food on my table. I could go on and on, but I won’t
