Mightier than the sword, able to leap long centuries in a single bound

Writing—the art of communicating thoughts to the mind, through the eye—is the great invention of the world.  Great in the astonishing range of analysis and combination which necessarily underlies the most crude and general conception of it—great, very great in enabling us to converse with the dead, the absent, and the unborn, at all distances of time and space.” – Abraham Lincoln, “Lecture on Discoveries and Inventions” (emphasis in original)

  1. Able to, yes, in the right hands. But man is it awful when the effort falls short. One misplaced word and you’ve kryptonited the whole damn thing.

(I’m in such a mood today!)

  2. ‘s alright. i made such a crude posting on a facebook wall earlier today (the issue was sexual fantasies regarding willard romney) that not long after, i thought, shit, i may have just made a public, written threat against a person protected by the secret service. i went back to the wall to issue a retraction, but it wasn’t my wall and the person’s whose it was appears to have both pulled the comment thread down and possibly even defriended me. i don’t mind being defriended, but i sure as shit don’t want any trouble with the secret service.

  3. yeah… yeah, it was a doozy. something about a dream of unemployed workers holding willard and plastic ann down and teaching them some basic lessons regarding rape.
