I read yesterday in The Guardian that some family members of Troy Davis’ supposed victim, after watching the execution, smiled.

That’s understandable. People smile at the oddest times. They may have felt it was the ending of a long period of torment for themselves.
Mark MacPhail was a good man. Obviously somebody killed him, but I don’t think it was Troy Davis. I don’t think Troy Davis ever killed anyone. Whatever else this case is about, it’s also about two men who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. A common enough human tragedy.
May God have mercy on our souls.
