Give me what I want or I’ll kill myself

“Suicide wore the mask of self-rejection; but in reality nobody took their personality more seriously than the person who was planning to kill himself on its instructions.  Nobody was more determined to stay in charge at any cost, to force the most mysterious aspect of life into their own imperious schedule.” – Edward St. Aubyn, At Last

I like this Edward fellow, explaining me to myself. Which of his books do you recommend I start with, Tetman?

Averil, he wrote a series called the Patrick Melrose series. It’s the five novels–Never Mind, Bad News, Some Hope, Mother’s Milk, and At Last–I’ve been posting quotes from over the last several weeks. I read a review of the series in the early summer, was intrigued, discovered my local library had copies of all five, and dove in. They were engaging books that took me maybe two weeks to read.
